A couple plans for what seems like forever for their “big day.” In a country that isn’t considered “third world”, you can pretty much count on your wedding happening on the day you plan it and things going fairly smooth and as it was planned.
This past week you may have heard that the country of Haiti again, was on a lock down. Road blocks and protesting because of so many things that the people in Haiti are just plain tired of. You can read more about it in our last blog. While the city we live in was pretty much stopped, there was a couple who had planned their wedding for this past Saturday. Waiting for this day, to become one. I am sure that the whole week was spent just not knowing if the wedding would happen the way they planned it, let alone at all.
On Thursday we were told as a country, that the blocks and lock down would stop from Friday until Sunday so people could get food, and take care of their needs. Then, start all over again on Monday. This couple seized this reprieve to continue with their wedding plans. So on Saturday, with their wedding party, parents and even a beautiful little flower girl, got married.
I tell you this story because we hear such negativity about Haiti. Yes, this country is going through many hard times and has been for many years and it looks as if many years to come. But, they are moments of joy, of hope, of possibilities for the future. There are good, positive things in Haiti. The people, the beauty all around us. Pray for beautiful country, the people, the unrest, and for this couple who amidst all of this chaos and unrest, have hope for their future. May God bless their marriage.
