Denise and Randy are back in Florida after driving Randy’s parents back to Rochester, New York and visiting with friends and family there. We had some great time visiting with people while we were there, but there’s never enough time to see everyone!
We are constantly watching for opportunities to head back to Haiti, even if it’s for a short term trip to tackle some projects or address some issues. Here are the types of warnings we are seeing from the State Department. This one has been expanded to account for the current conditions.
We also have a network of people in Haiti and other places that keep us alert to dangerous situations, roadblocks, and planned protests. These tools are all invaluable to help settle concerns about safe travel. Of course there are no guarantees…in the US, Haiti, or anywhere else.
Not only are we careful about when we travel, but when we know things are in short supply. We are also cautious about going to Haiti and consuming some of the resources that are difficult to find, such as food and fuel. The availability of key resources is unpredictable, so we are constantly monitoring what items can be purchased.
Life in Haiti
The communities of Jacmel and Grand Goave continue to be relatively quiet. Schools, churches and businesses are open. Supplies can be found, but many are at a much higher price than last year or even last month. Some sources report that the rate of inflation in Haiti is about 45-48% from last year. Despite the rising costs and scarce supplies, God continues to provide the means and methods to care for all the children He has placed with our organization.
Prayer Requests
We would appreciate your prayers for Haiti, for the ongoing ability to provide for the children in our care, and for continued spiritual growth across our campuses. Please also pray for the situation in Haiti to settle and for opportunities for us to return to Haiti.
Thank you for your prayers and support for our ministry.
