2016 – a year of change…and promises of more to come

Looking back at 2016, it has been quite a year.  As someone who prefers change to come a little at a time, this would typically be classified as a rough year. Who knew what God would have in store for us and how He would gently lead us down a path to huge change?

In a quest to find more meaningful work, a job change in April was a great move.  Leaving friends behind at an old job is always hard, but moving forward to a job in the pharmaceutical / medical research industry that makes an impact on people’s lives was a good step in the right direction.  That change was only the beginning.  Something else was stirring in our hearts.

Denise and I have served on short-term mission trips to a handful of places around the world.  Denise had an opportunity to serve in Haiti just after the earthquake in 2010 and my first trip there was in 2012.  We’ve made regular trips to the Jacmel, Haiti area since 2012 and have grown to love the country and the Haitian people that we serve.

Through an amazing sequence of events, God has opened a door for us to serve in Haiti…full-time.  Yes, we’ll be missionaries.  That’s still intimidating to say.  Can you imagine any bigger change than that?  Are we really qualified?  What does that mean?

After months of conversations, interviews, personality profiles and an on-site visit, Hands and Feet Project invited us on staff to work full-time at their Children’s Village in Jacmel, Haiti.  We’ll be providing leadership to the campus, including the areas of Circle of Care orphan ministry, Facility Maintenance & Aquaponics, and Operations & Finance.  There are Haitian staff that we’ll be working with in each of those areas.  We’ll also be hosting teams that serve on a short-term basis.

To learn more about our Haitian adventure, you can subscribe to our updates, send us a message and contribute to our living expenses on a one-time or monthly basis.  We value your partnership in prayer support and through financial contributions.  Both are essential to our success in serving our Haitian friends!
